what do you meme?

Ever notice how meme-able Nicolas Cage is?

Yesterday I played hooky.

I went and saw The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, starring the one and only Nic Cage.

If you’re wondering if you should see it, the answer is yes. He and Pedro Pascal had incredible chemistry in this weird buddy comedy/spy movie/action-adventure saga with just a hint of LSD. Trust me, you’ll get it when you see it.

I would be shocked – SHOCKED – if we didn’t see even MORE memes and gifs of Mr. Cage after this movie. I mean, just look at the man’s face!

We’ve got the crying Cage.

Then there’s the confident Cage.

What about crazy Cage?

And we can’t forget about “making a mullet look cool” Cage.

So why am I bombarding you with Nic Cage gifs on a Saturday?

One, you should go see Massive Talent. I laughed my ass off.

Two, it’s fun, and the best part about having an email list is getting to write about things you find fun, or interesting, or thought provoking.

When done right, you can have fun AND grow your business at the same time.

So many people think “email marketing” and start going down the serious sales psychology route. That’s fine and dandy, and having that underlying psych foundation will really help you as you build your sales argument.

But when you get down to it, the underlying psych is about being human and connecting over human stuff. I’d argue that Mr. Cage is ALL the humans, everywhere, all the time. He’s omnipresent. A gift to us all.

For me, this is probably the coolest thing about being an email marketer… the ability to be creative, talk about your weird obsessions, AND make sales at the same time.

It’s how I am able to fuck off on a Friday and go see a matinee movie… because I’m no longer tied to a desk having to do a certain amount of hours in order to earn my keep. I write some emails for me, critique some for clients, and I’m done for the day.

Before you ask, no I’m not launching a copy course or teaching copy.

But if you’re interested in learning more about email, then you’ve gotta check out Email Copy Academy by my friend Chris Orzechowski.

Chris and I have worked together for many, many years. First I was his copy chief on Jeff Walker’s team, and now for the last 18+ months I’ve been the copy chief for his agency, where we put out an incredible volume of sales emails every single week.

If there’s an email tactic out there we haven’t tried, I’d be pretty shocked.

And since I have been getting a lot of questions about email marketing lately I figured I’d share my favorite crash course.

Full disclosure: if you join I’ll get a little commission for sending you over. But if you’ve been following me for any amount of time, you know that 1) I wouldn’t recommend something I hadn’t vetted myself, and 2) I don’t often send out affiliate links.

There’s just something in the air with email lately and I had to share 🙂
