KMA: where’s my marching band??

It’s time to kick Monday’s ass…

Today I went for a walk.

I know… it’s a monumental revelation. I don’t know where the brass band went… I definitely hired one to celebrate/announce/glorify the fact that I went outside to do something OTHER than water my COVID garden or take out the trash.

But it’s getting to the point that something had to change. My morning routine consisted largely of me laying in bed reading stuff on my phone for an hour before I eventually dragged myself up.

Today I skipped the idle scrolling, laced up my sneakers, put on a podcast, and walked around the neighborhood park.

It was hot of course, because this is Houston… the armpit of the gulf of Mexico. But the true heat of the day hadn’t yet kicked in and it was 80s with a lot of humidity but also a lot of nice little breezes.

I almost can’t believe how good it felt simply to walk… because when I lost access to my gym, I pretty much stopped the exercise. I couldn’t find something to stick with at home.

But I liked this. I might stick with it.

I don’t think I realized how much brain drain happens when you wake up and start scrolling. That brings us to…

Kick Monday’s Ass Video

Incidentally, I made a video about morning routines a couple months ago, right when everything was shutting down.

Funny how sometimes we have to learn the same lessons over and over (and in my case… AND OVER) again. But that’s the whole point of failing forward.

Check out what recent-past-Angie had to say about her repeated failed attempts at developing a new morning routine. I’m gonna try to listen to her this time around…

(here’s a link to the video in case you don’t see it embedded below)

Failure is an event, not your identity.
Keep trying. Some of it will stick, and some won’t. But ya gotta keep trying… because otherwise, what’s the point?

I seriously doubt most of us are here to coast and die.

Get a little bit better every day… that’s all it takes.

Badass of the Week

My badass of the week is Madeline Swegle – who broke through all kinds of barriers to become the Navy’s first black female fighter pilot.

That’s a major achievement, and since a rising tide lifts all boats, I want to take a moment to celebrate her win for us all.

On Repeat This Week
Earlier this month, my favorite band released a cover of this song. And as much as I love Sevendust and their vibe, there’s just no comparison to the original on this one.

This weekend has been all about my ongoing love affair with Chris Cornell (RIP)… so won’t you please join me in rockin’ the fuck out to a little Soundgarden today?

It’s Monday y’all… get out there and kick some ass.

Rock on,
Angie

P.S. Advance apologies for any technical weirdness, accidental double-sends, or email funkiness. My team and I are in the middle of changing email service providers. I promise I didn’t get button-clicking-happy or extra special obnoxious this week. It’ll be done by the end of the month and I appreciate your patience in sticking with me!

The Day I Tried to Live by Soundgarden

I woke the same as any other day
Except a voice was in my head
It said seize the day, pull the trigger, drop the blade
And watch the rolling heads

If you’re an aspiring freelancer who’s working up the courage to leave the day job… good news! I’m sharing all the things I WISH I’d known before making the leap so that hopefully your journey goes a little more smoothly than mine.
