KMA March 16, 2020 – Look for the helpers

It’s time to kick Monday’s ass…

Good morning and happy Monday!

I’m back from a cool ass copywriter conference that happened last week in San Diego, and I gotta say… I’m so stoked there are so many of us talking about fear and mindset.

I’ve long been a fan of the notion that before you can achieve it, you’ve got to believe it. Meaning, if you don’t even think something is possible, if you’re letting fear hold you back from even trying… well, your brain has a funny way of self-sabotaging even if you REALLY want the thing.

I’m a little obsessed with fear, in case you can’t tell.

When I was little, my cousin pushed me off my floatie in the pool and I distinctly remember sitting on the bottom, looking up at him through the water. For the longest time afterward, I was paranoid of drowning. So I did the only thing that made sense to me… I became a lifeguard, then a swim instructor, then a lifeguard instructor.

For me, knowledge has always been power… ESPECIALLY when it comes to fear.

So in honor of all those little niggling doubts that hold us back, I wanted to share a special edition of…

Kick Monday’s Ass Video

I gave a talk at a dinner group back in October – it was all about the role fear plays in our lives. For most of us, it’s a brick wall… an obstacle that stops all forward motion. So I wanted to give you a few tools to break that wall down and get moving again. Here’s a link to the video in case you don’t see it embedded below.

I did not realize I was such an animated speaker until this very moment.
Credit to Marcella Allison and the Titanides for inviting me to speak, and for sharing the recording with me. You can learn more about Marcella’s mission at https://titanides.com/

Badass of the Week

He’s passed on, but his legacy remains.

Because of what’s happening in the world, my BotW is Mr. Rogers.

I’m sharing the quote below in case the image doesn’t load:

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” To this day, especially in times of disaster, I remember my mother’s words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.” ~Fred Rogers

And since you can’t escape news of the Coronavirus (unless you’re living under a rock, in which case kudos to you for the excellent cell reception leading you to open this email) – I wanted to highlight a helper who’s currently inspiring me.

That’s Abbey Woodcock of the Freelance Co-op, who’s taken it upon herself to start an emergency fund for freelancers affected by COVID-19.

If you’re in a good position right now and can afford to donate, I highly urge you to do so. I’ve contributed and if the need arises I’ll do as much as I can.

And if you’re struggling, go ahead and apply. There are no trophy points for doing it alone and none of us got anywhere without help.

Get all the details here.

On Repeat This Week
I’m feeling feisty this week – and whenever I’m feeling feisty, the rocker side comes out.

Below I’ve got this week’s song on repeat. “It’s time for glory and it’s time for guts… what if it was all left up to us?”

Prepare to rock out.

Happy Monday y’all… get out there and kick some ass (while practicing social distancing).

Rock on,
Angie

Any time I’m feeling stifled, or like someone’s doubting me, or there’s some big ass obstacle holding me back… this one makes me feel like I can conquer anything.

If you’re an aspiring freelancer who’s working up the courage to leave the day job… good news! I’m sharing all the things I WISH I’d known before making the leap so that hopefully your journey goes a little more smoothly than mine.
