Kick Monday’s Ass: all about your “why”

It’s time to kick Monday’s ass…

Check out this weird faceless dude:

(If you’re not seeing an image above, you may need to enable them)

He’s the product of a year gone bonkers.

Seriously, I have no idea how it’s already October.

In the art world, at least on Instagram, October is known as Inktober – a month for challenging yourself to draw (and share) work with others, in pen and ink.

Each day the Inktober Insta account (say that 3x fast) shares a theme, and you get to work on drawing something.

The dude above was for day 3: bulky. I instantly pictured Ralphie’s little brother from the movie A Christmas Story, and knew that’s what I wanted to draw.

Only I suck at faces (for now – working on getting better).

So rather than find something else, or skipping this one altogether because I don’t do faces… I figured out how to do it “good enough”. I did the rest of the drawing, and conveniently obscured the face.

Yet, you still get the message I was trying to convey.

This is a lot like business (and life, really)… often you’re working with what you’ve got, and you can’t always make the full vision come 100% to life.

But if you force yourself to do what you can with what you’ve got – you might just get close enough to count.

And now for this week’s video…

Kick Monday’s Ass: all about your big “why”

“But what if I build a business doing this thing I love… and I start to hate it?”

“But shouldn’t I really be focusing on making as much money as possible?”

Answers to these questions and more rant-rambling, in today’s Kick Monday’s Ass video…

Badass of the Week

If you grew up with the show “Reading Rainbow” like I did, then you’re going to love this one.

Renowned actor Lavar Burton has created a podcast called “Lavar Burton Reads” that’s like Reading Rainbow for adults.

When asked for the inspiration behind this idea, he had this to say:

“I just love reading aloud because it’s such an intrinsic part of the human experience. We can all relate to it,” he said. “Not everybody has been to the ballet. Not everybody’s been to the theatre. But most everybody has an experience of having been read to.”

On Repeat This Week…

If you ever wonder how I have so much music at my fingertips – it’s because of my love of Shazam.

ANY time a song that’s playing in a show, a movie, a public space catches my attention, I whip out the phone and figure out the title/artist.

I can’t remember when this song by Jodie May reached out to me, but I love it and I think you will too.

It’s the kind of song that makes me want to curl up with a good book, on the couch, in front of a roaring fire. With probably a hundred candles blazing.

It’s so simple and mellow…

“When it’s dark you find light
smile at strangers that you meet
you rejoice in your love
and when it rains down on your feet
you say “oh what a day it’s been”
