Kick Monday’s Ass: There’s Always Going to Be a Reason NOT To (October 19, 2020)

It’s time to kick Monday’s ass…

So last week I kinda vague-booked about how weird things are in my world right now.

I won’t bore you with the details, but suffice it to say in a short timeframe my plans have completely changed. Last weekend, I had one picture of my next steps in life and in business… and then through no fault of my own, that picture was destroyed and I had to create a new one.

I’m not looking for sympathy (though I’m not opposed to funny memes if you’ve got them) – but I wanted to share some of my behind-the-scenes experience (granted keeping the details of my personal struggles vague, simply because I’m not ready to bare my soul in that way just yet).

When my future vision changed so drastically and unexpectedly, my first reaction was to run back to “safety”, whatever that means. I just wanted something comfortable and familiar to get me through the rough spot, to not feel like everything was changing at once and I was completely and utterly lost.

But as time wore on I realized that running back to my comfort zone was a trap. This is a new and, at times, scary road for me. There are a lot of unknowns. But I know where I want to go – and it’s not backward. Which means this new path ain’t gonna feel “safe” or “comfortable” for awhile.

And I’m learning to be OK with that.

Speaking of reasons TO do and reasons NOT to do things, check out this week’s video…

Kick Monday’s Ass: there’ll always be a reason NOT to

A lot of would-be entrepreneurs I talk to get hung up on this idea of “I need something new, never before seen… something truly innovative that’s going to blow people’s minds (subtext: and make me an instant millionaire without having to do all the hard work)”

The reality is – the chances of you coming up with that million-dollar idea on your first go-round are slim to none.

But here are a few ways you CAN come up with a successful business idea, and how to start down the path.

Badass of the Week

Remember 8th grade? Yeah me neither. I’m pretty sure I was just coming into my boy craziness and nothing else mattered.

But this week I heard about an amazing 8th grader who developed a potential COVID-19 treatment. She won a $25,000 prize from the 3M Young Scientist Challenge and I’m blown away by her brains and her dedication to solving a problem that most of us would consider gargantuan, beyond any one single person.

Anika Chebrolu – you go, girl. Don’t ever let anyone sway you from your work or your dreams.

(If you know someone who should be featured as my Badass of the Week, leave a comment and tell me!)

On Repeat This Week…

This one comes courtesy of my friend Kevin Rogers – he sent this to me during a rough period in my life and it spoke to my soul. If you’re going through a rough time, this one is for you:

One day maybe we will dance again
Under fiery skies
One day maybe you will love again
Love that never dies

One day maybe you will see the land
Touch skin with sand
You’ve been swimming in the lonely sea
With no company

Oh, don’t you want to find?
Can’t you hear this beauty in life?
The roads, the highs, breaking up your life
Can’t you hear this beauty in life?

One day maybe you will cry again
Just like a child
You’ve gotta tie yourself to the mast my friend
And the storm will end
