Kick Monday’s Ass: just in time for Halloween (Oct 25, 2021)
It’s time to kick Monday’s ass…
A funny thing happened on my way to St Pete this weekend…
On the road, I got an invite from a friend to attend a concert later that evening. I responded with a hell yeah when I stopped off at a gas station, and continued on my way, with the ever-yowling cat.
By the time I arrived, around 4 hours later… I was exhausted. I grabbed what I thought would be a quick power nap and woke up close to 6pm. The show was at 8, it was half an hour’s drive, and I still hadn’t unloaded the car or showered.
I flew out the door and hurriedly started flinging stuff out of the trunk into the living room. Then I took the world’s quickest shower, while conveniently forgetting I hadn’t yet unpacked the clothes that I just pulled out of my car.
My bedroom looked like a tornado had hit, with the sheer volume of cloth thrown every which way. But I finally found an outfit and made myself presentable… and sprinted to the car to head out.
I pulled up the theater on my GPS and thought I was hallucinating for a second… estimated time on the road was 6 minutes, not the half hour I anticipated.
I triple checked the band’s website, the theater site, and the text Kev sent me with the Google Maps coordinates. Frankly, I’m still not quite sure how I managed to convince myself it was half an hour away when it was really a mile and a half away.
But in that moment I had a decision to make – head out early, or go back inside to kill time. I opted to go early, and wandered around taking pictures while I waited for them to arrive.
Sometimes life is like that – you rush and rush because you know you have to do something a certain way at a certain time. And then you find out you really didn’t need to rush it at all.
You still got there, and had a kickass time.
Kick Monday’s Ass: there’s always going to be a reason NOT to do it
A lot of would-be entrepreneurs I talk to get hung up on this idea of “I need something new, never before seen… something truly innovative that’s going to blow people’s minds (subtext: and make me an instant millionaire without having to do all the hard work)”
The reality is – the chances of you coming up with that million-dollar idea on your first go-round are slim to none. But here are a few ways you CAN come up with a successful business idea, and how to start down the path.
Badass of the Week
This week’s badass is Berna Gomez and all the scientists and doctors that helped her regain partial sight after 16 years of blindness.
It’s always amazing to me how much we still don’t know about our bodies and our selves – and that breakthroughs like this are still on the horizon.
New podcast episode!
“If you’re a creative, you can’t be good at business and make a living.”
Today’s guest, Sandi MarLisa is waving a big red BS flag on that crap. After losing her magic in the drudgery of everyday life, she rediscovered her passions and found success on her own terms – as a writer and full-time musician. Sandi’s proof that every problem is figure-outable. If she can do it, so can you.
Can’t-Miss Moments From This Episode:
- Less than 90 seconds into the episode and we got an F bomb! Sandi doesn’t give a f*ck and she’s not apologizing for this — and neither should you.
- Talking about your achievements is so arrogant… or is it confident? Sandi explains the difference (psst…if you’ve been waiting for permission to toot your own horn, we’re giving it to you).
- “The world is not going to raise your price” — but you can. Sandi and I explain how it’s actually more simple than you’d think
- How do you define wealth and success? When I started out it was 6 figures, for Sandi it was proving she was business savvy — and here’s why the only definition of “success” that matters is YOURS
- You don’t need to listen to what other people say about you… but what if they’re seeing is actually an opportunity in disguise? Here’s how to tell constructive criticism from haters…

On Repeat This Week…
This weekend I got to St. Pete/Clearwater in Florida, and as I mentioned in the intro, went to see a show with my friend, Kevin Rogers. A few years ago Kev introduced me to this band, Here Come the Mummies – and I gotta tell you they put on a hell of a freaking show. Today, I bring you Friction by Here Come the Mummies.
I really love how they emphasize the beat with the chains on the floor (that’s what the Anubis guys in the background are doing). Not to mention them literally throwing sparks with grinders. Good show if you ever get a chance to see. Undead funk, they call it 🙂
