Kick Monday’s Ass: I don’t want to be a guru (August 30, 2021)
It’s time to kick Monday’s ass…
Keeping it short and sweet this week, mostly because I wrote a long-ass post about why I haven’t been writing about my travels.
It’s called “I don’t want to be your fucking breakup guru” and you can read it here.
Kick Monday’s Ass: Angie on the Road
Speaking of travels, did I mention that I actually did manage to write about some of my adventures? Rachael Pilcher, friend and fellow digital nomad, reached out to ask me about my travels… specifically how I manage traveling, adventuring, work, and Stella the cat. I bombarded her with adventure stories and food photos here.
Badass of the Week
“Mattress Mack” of Gallery Furniture is a Houston institution.
Not just because of the giant, brightly lit mega-complex right next to the freeway… but because he opens his doors to the community when there’s a need.
Hurricane Ida just hit the Lousiana coast (which has been hit by 4 storms in the last year), and Mack is mobilizing his “Mack Has Your Back” truck to send relief supplies over to those who are stuck and suffering.
If that’s not badass, I don’t know what is.
(If you know someone who should be featured as my Badass of the Week, leave a comment and tell me!)
New podcast episode!
Energy… flow… higher purpose. I’m not ordinarily very “woo” but today’s guest, Deepshikha Sairam, has opened my eyes to the “practical woo” of finding flow in your business. Like turning on a garden hose, more pressure isn’t always the answer to whatever life throws your way. Sometimes you gotta smooth out the kinks first. Listen to this episode to expand your mind (and your business).
Can’t-Miss Moments From This Episode:
PoYAYto, poTAHto — you’re probably already speaking woo and don’t even realize it. Here’s the proof…
Are you accomplishing business goals or just getting a fake high? We’ve been conditioned to not see the difference — Deepshikha and I discuss a better way to know your worth
A gym bruh, a Peloton instructor and Brene Brown walk into a bar — what they have in common is an attitude you need to succeed in business (“Ooh, that hurts. I’m getting stronger, kiss the bicep”)
The important stuff in business doesn’t happen on Instagram. We bust down the bull$h*t behind the #laptoplifestyle “work from the beach” trope
Are you the freaking CEO of your company or are you letting meetings determine when you pee? Deepshikha and I discuss the standard you don’t want to set with your clients

On Repeat This Week…
I used to cover this with my band, and my favorite part was how it turns your expectations on their head. It’s called I’m the Reason Why You Drink by Candye Kane. You might be tempted to think she’s talking about a relationship where they’re driven to drink. In reality she keeps slipping her partner shots.
_______________
While you were talking to your friend
I topped your whiskey up again
When you were head toward the door
I made you swallow down one more
You were buried deep in thought
Till they poured you that last shot
I’m the reason why you drink
I know it helps you not to think
I take responsibility
Drink down another two or three
It’s not like you try to stop me
You’re a willing volunteer
I know it helps you not to think
I’m the reason why you drink
