Kick Monday’s Ass: feelin’ good as hell… (February 1, 2021)
It’s time to kick Monday’s ass…
I’ve been thinking a lot about internet weirdos lately.
Once upon a time in my small Texas town, I felt like a total outsider. I didn’t run with any one clique – I hung with them all. I was a proud band nerd, and didn’t care if people thought I was a bookworm.
I told crazy stories (ask me about the time my friends played “chicken” in my room and broke a hole through the floor) and was a total tomboy (still am).
And on the surface it might seem like I owned that shit and rocked it. But frankly the message I got growing up was… too loud, too bossy, too MUCH.
So I spent a lot my late teens and early college days trying to be LESS. Make people around me more comfortable by doing what one SHOULD be doing as opposed to what came naturally to me.
Hell, I even got married at 20 (and divorced at 23). That might be a shock if you didn’t already know that about me… but yeah. I married a Marine. You’re supposed to get engaged and married after you’ve been dating for awhile… them’s the steps!
Yet the harder I tried to Follow The Steps to Happiness, the more frustrated and depressed I got. I’d spend hours online talking to people like me, who felt like they didn’t fit in at home.
I didn’t know it at the time, but I’d found my community – it just so happens that they’re spread all over the world. But they get me. They like me. They let me be myself and be OK with it.
So if you don’t feel quite like you fit in where you’re at… maybe you just haven’t found your fellow weirdos yet.
But trust me when I say they’re out there, and when you find them it’ll feel like coming home.
With that, let’s jump into this week’s video…
Kick Monday’s Ass: Getting People in Your Corner
So here’s a bit of a downer: not everyone is gonna see the vision like you do. That’s OK – not everyone was meant to be an entrepreneur. Some of us are just wired differently 🙂
But it is absolutely critical to get people in your corner, especially because no one – not ONE SINGLE entrepreneur – got anywhere without help and support somewhere along the way. You don’t get brownie points, a trophy, and a parade for doing it all on your own. And frankly the journey’s a lot more fun with company.
So what do you do when you’ve got slightly less than supportive people surrounding you? That’s what this week’s video is about…
Badass of the Week
The past year has been equal parts weird, devastating, [insert adjective of choice here].
What I’m loving about this is how many things we’re seeing as POSSIBLE that might not have been that way before. Things like remote work, flexible schedules, and finding new and interesting ways to be happy…
Like this town in British Columbia, Canada that banded together to celebrate Chinese New Year without the parades and festivals.
I’m experiencing something similar in New Orleans (where I’m currently hunkered down)… the Mardi Gras parades have all been canceled for concerns over COVID-19. But the neighborhoods along the parade routes are all decorating their houses as “floats” so that when you’re walking down the street you can still feel that connection and celebration.
I don’t know about you but I think it’s badass to reframe the idea of “together” when you can’t actually BE together. How empowering is that, to bring a little joy to someone’s life?
(If you know someone who should be featured as my Badass of the Week, leave a comment and tell me!)
On Repeat This Week…
This one’s called Feeling Good As Hell by Lizzo.
Tying into this theme of having people in your corner – time to add Lizzo to your (virtual) team. She’s my favorite advocate for loving the hell out of yourself, as you are now, where you are now, imperfections and all.
Fiercely. Deeply. Truly.
‘Cause you got this.
(I will honestly be shocked if this one doesn’t make you wanna get up and dance it out.)

I know that it’s hard but you have to try
If you need advice, let me simplify

Just walk your fine ass out the door
I do my hair toss
Check my nails
Baby how you feelin’?
