Kick Monday’s Ass: competition is a GOOD thing

It’s time to kick Monday’s ass…

It’s funny sometimes, the ideas we get in our heads about “the way things are”.

I put that last bit in quotes because I’m fond of another, related quote: your reality isn’t real.

Have you ever thought about the different choices and experiences someone might have had to go through in order to get to their seemingly perfect life? How those choices and experiences might differ from your own?

I know growing up, we were struggling. It was a single-mom-with-three-kids scenario and it wasn’t always easy. To this day, macaroni and cheese with cut up sausage is a comfort dish. Don’t judge.

That little Angie, living in that little house in rural Texas, wasn’t even AWARE of someone living in say… upstate New York, with an estate with landscapers and an in-house chef who’d Exorcist barf at the thought of mac-n-cheese-with-hot-dogs.

Those are two completely different realities. And until I meet (and get to know someone) with a different reality from mine, I have absolutely no concept of what it takes to get from where I am to where they are (if I want that in the first place). Their whole life seems LITERALLY unreal to me without that context.

So that’s my challenge to you this week… if there’s a dream you’ve had that feels like an impossibility (or even a pipe dream) – find someone who’s done it. See just how real that reality can be… because I bet once you see it’s possible, you’ll be able to figure out how to reverse engineer it for yourself.

That brings us to this week’s video…

Kick Monday’s Ass: competition is a GOOD thing

I was talking to a coaching student last week who expressed a pretty common fear in entrepreneurship:

“But I don’t know if I can build a business in that market because there’s already a ton of competition.”

I hear you. I get why that’s something that’d wig you out.

And I’m about to flip that idea on its head and show you why you should EMBRACE competition instead of avoid it.

It’s all in this week’s KMA video.

Badass of the Week

This week’s honor goes to Joselyne Umutoniwase, who shows us sometimes business ideas come to you, if you’re paying attention.

Joselyne had always been interested in clothing and fashion – and she realized she was onto something when she left her home in Rwanda to go to film school in Germany… and wound up selling all the clothes in her two suitcases to Germans fascinated with colorful African wax prints.

It wasn’t long before she switched from film school to fashion. You can get the full story here.

On Repeat This Week…

This is a bit of a departure from the typical songs I recommend… I was introduced to Tycho by my boyfriend, Andrew.

Awhile back, we instituted a rule about how much TV we would watch in an evening (that kinda went out the window with COVID-19 and stay-at-home orders, but it was super nice and I’m looking forward to bringing it back)… we could watch an hour, or until 8:30, whichever happened first.

It worked really well for us when he went to his office and we’d come home and prep dinner, grab ONE show episode… and then usually he’d connect his phone to our Bluetooth stereo system and play a Tycho playlist.

Man, I’ve gotten SO MUCH DONE while getting lost in Tycho rabbit holes. This weekend I knocked off about five to-dos that have been lingering on my list for months… while listening to this.

So have at it… check it out and see if it doesn’t get you amped up to knock out some of your own to-do list.

That’s it for now – catch you next week. Now let’s go kick some ass…

Rock on,
Angie

I make these recommendations because 1) pie is delicious, especially when the pie is figurative and made of cash, 2) I have personally used or listened to or read everything I recommend in this email and know what it could do for you, and 3) I love imagining all the action takers out there devouring these kickass materials and progressing by leaps and bounds. Brings back happy memories of my own journey!
