a special anniversary: the day I got fired from a job I didn’t have

Today’s an interesting anniversary.
Four years ago today, I got fired from a job I didn’t even technically have.
I didn’t realize until that moment that after I left this job I’d been thinking, “oh well, if this freelance thing doesn’t work out, I can always go back.”
Then the safety net was taken away and I had to get serious about finding work or finding a job.
It was a blessing in disguise, though I definitely felt ALL the feels that day, and my former team and I drowned our shock with shots.
Facebook shared the following memory with me:
When you tell the bar owner your entire department just got laid off and they bring out a tray full of shots…

If you’re an aspiring freelancer who’s working up the courage to leave the day job… good news! I’m sharing all the things I WISH I’d known before making the leap so that hopefully your journey goes a little more smoothly than mine.
